After numerous stoppages, including a red light where TV cables fell onto the track, Kevin Harvick powered away from Kasey Kahne with 11 laps to go to win the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Kahne seemed to have the fastest machine on the night but when the green flag dropped after the final caution, Harvick dropped to the inside line and slowly pulled away from him (Kahne) who finished second, with Kurt Busche finishing third. Pole sitter Denny Hamlin finished in forth.
The weirdest incident of the event was definitely the overhead Fox TV cable that caused damage to a number of cars including Kyle Busche who happened to be in the lead at the time and Australian Marcos Ambrose fracture a brake line. This bought on a red light whilst crews cleaned up the mess whilst NASCAR gave the teams 15 minutes to fix their cars.
The #29 Chevrolet of Harvick thanked his team after the race, with the tyre strategy to stay out paying dividends on the night. The 1.7 second lead win over Kahne was his second of the 2013 season and his second win at Charlotte.
